It's been in the works since 2001 and now it's finally happening. Come April, 2009, Reno will have a new downtown baseball stadium and a Triple-A team to play in it. It was all made official at Monday's ground breaking ceremony attended by local and state politicians, team and Pacific Coast League officials, and hundreds of citizens. The baseball team is moving to Reno from Tucson, AZ, and remains affiliated with the major league Arizona Diamondbacks.

The vision is to create an entertainment and shopping zone around the stadium, thereby adding another bright spot to Reno's overall downtown redevelopment efforts. So far, Hyatt is in the game with a new hotel across from the stadium; construction is expected to begin in August.

Fans wanting to following stadium progress or interested in learning about season tickets can visit the Reno Baseball website.
