The City of Reno has received the "Main Street USA" award from the American Concrete Pavement Association, fitting recognition for one of Reno's most visible downtown redevelopment projects. The Virginia Street Improvement Project, between the Truckee River and 4th Street, included widening sidewalks, taking out a traffic lane, new street lights, more trees, and new crosswalks of colored and textured concrete.

When you add in the completion of the ReTRAC train trench, which put rumbling freights below street level to finally end years of whistle blasts and stopped traffic, the effect is a huge advance in the downtown experience.

The project officially wrapped up in May, 2007, followed by a street party attended by a throng of citizens and a large contingent of vintage cars and hot rods. Venture downtown and check it out. I think you will like what you see, especially if you saw the before version.
